On Our Side - Psalm 132 (124)

PSALM 123 (124)
A song of ascents.

If it had not been that the Lord was with us,
now may Israel say;
if it had not been that the Lord was with us,
when men rose up against us;
then they had swallowed us up alive.
When their wrath was kindled against us,
then the waters had overwhelmed us.
Our soul had passed through the torrent;
then had our soul passed through the overwhelming water.
Blessed be the Lord,
who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul hath been delivered,
as a sparrow out of the snare of the hunters.
The snare is broken,
and we are delivered.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

The Psalmist’s caravan is underway. You can hear the excitement and joy in his voice as he leads the family in a rousing travel song.

If it were not for the Lord
Who was on our side-
O let Israel sing it with me
The Creator will our help provide
O let Israel sing it with me

The wrath of man would have swallowed us up
Would have drowned us in its tide
Our lives would have been swept away
But the Lord was on our side

If it were not for the Lord
Who was on our side-
O let Israel sing it with me
The Creator will our help provide
O let Israel sing it with me

Praise the Lord! We were not consumed
We escaped like a bird from a trap
He snapped the snare and we escaped
Let us dance and sing and clap

If it were not for the Lord
Who was on our side-
O let Israel sing it with me
The Creator will our help provide
O let Israel sing it with me
